Oishi is an innovative personalized healthcare product co-designed with real parents. The multi-touchpoint program that supports parents of children with severe food allergies to live happy, healthy, and normal lives.
A mobile app provides customized recipes and shopping lists based on a child’s unique allergy profile. Oishi also consists of a personalized food allergen scanner that is programmed with a child’s unique allergy profile and can detect allergens in both packaged and fresh foods. The scanner works hand-in-hand with the Oishi Owl plush toy — when the scanner detects allergens in food, Oishi Owl speaks to a child, letting him/her know if food is safe to eat. Through fun and engaging play, Oishi Owl teaches children about allergies in a positive way.
Human-centric design starts with the user. In our research, we interviewed families, caretakers, and doctors of children with varying degrees of food allergies. Uncovering meaningful insights about stakeholders is the crux of the process to drive innovation. Through research and co-creation with real users, we discovered and gleaned insights and opportunities for product and service innovation. Using rapid prototyping and continuous interaction with users, we iterated and refined concepts. Using our research and synthesized insights, we created a powerful story that uncovered the fear and burden parents feel when faced with managing their child’s severe food allergies.
